SLASH is always busy with a band, doing interviews, guest appearances
and on and on. It's hard to keep track of what he's up to but here in
the Current Events section we try to keep an eye on him for you. If
you have any SLASH sightings to report, email the SLASH page right here.
Just click on the SLASH picture below:
Here's some news on record charts. Canada's Music World's Top 10 CDs has Contraband in
the #7 slot. "Fall To Pieces" is #8 in Modern Rock Tracks. This is taken from a national
supply of airplay supplied by Broadcast Data Systems.
Here's an item that came in from Samantha in Nebraska. It's a real pan of Velvet Revolver,
and you might want to skip this. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, but we think the
sell out crowds and strong showing of the singles and album put the lie to this review.
Review from Nebraska.
In other "Fall To Pieces" news, there's a report on the net from an average guy who
got himself a place in the "Fall To Places" video. There's some advantage to just
playing along and being in the right place at the right time! This guy just happened
to be nearby, went over to watch the shoot, got himself in some rock clothing and
just kind of tagged along into the video where he got to stand by Scott's "girlfriend"
and in front of SLASH! We read this and thought you might like to read it, too.
Check it out at this address.
Hopefully, we'll have some more current news for you soon!
While you're thinking of Velvet Revolver's television appearances, the Emmy Awards show
will be on Sunday, September 19. Velvet Revolver provides the entertainment. This is
the 2004 Post-Show Party, and E! will cover this show beginning at 11 pm. We're
not sure when VR will play, so it could be a long night!
Derek sent us a note that the "Slither" video can be viewed on the Apple site at
Apple. It seems to be a MAC-only thing there, but our MAC-using fans may
like it.
Ismar wrote in saying that a lot of international fans might not really understand
the meaning of Contraband. It means an illegal substance smuggled in to a country.
For example, cocaine brought into the US is contraband. We understand that most
people were thinking it meant the band was against something, and that is not what
was meant. Hope that clears this up.
Rich went to the Manchester show, and when he wrote to us, he said that Velvet Revolver
totally blew him away. He took a few pictures and has them up where anyone can see
them. is the place to look. Thanks, Rich!
Jason wants to enlist your help. Now that "Fall to Pieces" is on Launch.com, it would be cool
to see it as the #1 video, so he's suggesting that everyone log on to launch and play
"Fall to Pieces" at least once every day. Make it a habit...when your computer comes up
or you go to email! Sounds like a plan.
Norm has been watching the Ross Halpin (rock photographer) site, and the news is
that Ross has posted more Velvet Revolver photos. To see these, go to
Halpin Photos.
Norm also said that if you're looking for VR t-shirts and posters, try rockabilia.com.
Thanks, Norm!
Looking ahead, Velvet Revolver has been chosen for another big show. TV Guide, the largest
weekly magazine in the world, announced plans for its second annual Emmy Awards After Party.
It's a star-studdeed salute to the Emmys, the biggest night in TV, and it will feature a
special performance by Velvet Revolver! The Emmys will be held Sunday, September 19th in
Los Angeles. This is a big honor for Velvet Revolver, and we're sure a lot of rehearsal
time will go into getting this just right. Let's hope their performance will be on TV.
Another TV appearance is on VH1. VH1 is finally presenting its vh1(inside)out: the rise of Velvet Revolver.
It covers the period from building the band through the band's first video. This is one that
was made over a period of several years with a VH1 crew following the band around and taping.
It should be an excellent show. The show times are: Thursday, September 30 at 9 pm ET,
Friday, October 1 at midnight and again at 6pm that day. On Saturday, October 2, it will be
shown at 2 am.
And here are some more pictures from Michael also from the Manchester Apollo gig. Thanks,
Michael!

Some confusing business word has been going around the net about Velvet Revolver. As you recall,
we were told recently that VR fired their
management, Immortal Entertainment. Subsequently, the two people who
worked on their account, Dan Millman-Dufine and David Codicow, resigned from Immortal.
The thought was that they were front runners to take over band management. It's now
been rumored that SLASH is going with HK (Howard Kaufman) Management while the rest
of the band is going with Irvin Azoff. Millman-Dufine and Codicow are said to be
trying to get HK to take them on. Since Millman-Dufine mainly looks after vocalist
Scott Weiland, she might be hired at least for awhile while Azoff doesn't
From SLASH, all this is inaccurate and mostly rumors. He'll let us know when the dust
settles what the scoop is. In the meantime, the band is together and doing fine.
If you've been hungering for the new SLASH signature guitar, Ben found one for sale on
ebay. It's pricey, but you knew that, didn't you? Check that out at
Sig Guitar. Thanks, Ben!
Last time we told you that a GNR tune would be on a forthcoming video game. Zev
found the "Welcome to the Jungle" trailer for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Go to
www.rockstargames.com/sanandreas/
to check that out. Somehow you knew that would be the song they chose, right? Thanks, Zev!
Vanity Fair and DKNY//JEANS present Vanity Fair 'In Concert' to benefit the Step Up
Women's Network. This is a bi-coastal all-star musical celebration in NYC on Thursday, October
21 and in L.A. on Saturday, October 23. Camp Freddy will be at both shows which means at least
Matt Sorum from Velvet Revolver will be there. Camp Freddy always has special guests and
although no other VR band members are mentioned as stopping in, you never know. If you're
a Camp Freddy fan, read all about this event at
Camp Freddy News. Brian sent in
a link to recent Camp Freddy pictures at House of Blues where Scott joined them.
These are at Camp Freddy Pics .
An interesting article for UK fans is in the current issue of Classic Rock. Velvet Revolver is on the
cover in this latest issue. Richard sent this to us, and he says there are good band
interviews and some good stories. The guy who did the interview also interviewed SLASH back in
the old GNR days and was recognized by SLASH. SLASH said he downed a bottle of Jack before
the old interview! This time he was drinking tea! Thanks, Richard!
This note from Rui is a help if you missed The Making of Slither. He says that the
Portugese Sol Musica TV channel aired the show, and he captured it and put it
online. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a lot of space on his server, so the quality
of the video is low, but it's worth a look if you haven't seen the video. Click
Making of Slither.
Scott is one of the special guests expected to
perform with Camp Freddy Saturday night at a private birthday party at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA.
Meanwhile on the SLASH front, Pauric says there will be a GNR song on the new Grand Theft Auto Playstation 2
game. If you're not familiar with the game, you drive around doing your mission, and while driving you can listen
to the radio and select radio stations, like ROCK! The actual song has not been named, but game developers
confirm that a GNR song will be on the game. Another brief SLASH mention came in from Justin. In an
episode of Blind Date, and there was a woman with SLASH-like hair. The caption said "SLASH really let himself go!"
Fans were disappointed when they weren't given the chance to attend Miller Brewing Company's
special 2 night show celebrating 50 Years of Rock and Roll. SLASH played the first night
with Lenny Kravitz and James Brown. On the second night, Velvet Revolver did some songs.
Tickets were given by Miller to their distributors for giveaways/prizes etc. There's
a review of the big show, and it's a slam at Miller and the idea that a lite beer can
take rock and roll from the people. Check this article out at
Rock and Roll Will Never Die.
Another tour announcement, and this time it's for Michigan! Velvet Revolver will play the
Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on November 23. Tickets go on sale through
Ticketmaster on October 9. Rock 'N' F*ckin' Roll! Be there! From what we can tell, this
would not be a festival, but a regular theater, more intimate, event. Great!
Other good news...Brian sent in the word that is almost impossible to comprehend!
Velvet Revolver has again taken over the #1 slot on Billboard's Mainstream Rock
Tracks chart with their hit single "Fall To Pieces". First, "Slither" and now
"Fall To Pieces"! "Slither" held onto the #1 slot for nine big weeks earlier this
year. "Fall To Pieces" blasted Linkin Park's cd back to the fourth position.
In international charting, "Fall To Pieces" single debuted at #26 on the official
Dutch Top 50 chart and #89 on the German chart. Wow! Killer debut. And the single
isn't even generally available. We have the promo version that was released to
the media. Yesterday, the official release arrived in the mail. This is the EU
version and has two tracks on it plus something extra:
1. "Fall To Pieces"
2. "Surrender" (Cheap Trick cover)
3. "Fall to Pieces" - Video
This is a VERY cool single, well worth the price. Rock on!
Scott Weiland has those really rocker clothes onstage, but Rolling Stone issue
October 14, has a great picture of Scott going into the World Music Awards in a great
brown suit. Under Style Notes, they say that the suit was by Ozwald Boateng...hand sewn,
from London and very expensive. Even though VR was only on stage a short time, Scott looked
super in his new suit.
Lisa is from Italy, and she sent this in to us. Velvet Revolver is already getting noticed
in ways some bands never do. A Velvet Revolver Tribute Album is already on the horizon, to
be released on October 5 from The String Quartet. Hello? The Quartet's web site says that it's
"packed with the same vitality and rock edge you'd expect from these artists. The instrumental string arrangements articulate
every nuance of these talented music makers, as well as gently introduce you to some of Velvet Revolver's new tunes.
This is your invitation to rockin' music set to brilliant strings, giving you a CD you won't put down any time soon." Might
be interesting.
On a final, sad note, we note the passing of the great punk guitarist, Johnny Ramone. Johnny passed away after a long
battle with prostate cancer. SLASH and Duff were both big fans of The Ramones who practically owned CBGB's
in NYC. Johnny's death follows on the heels of bandmate Joey . They will be missed.
With the guys back home on break, there isn't much to report. The big thing that happened
with them is a shake up in the management. Velvet Revolver fired their management team,
Immortal Entertainment, on Friday, September 17. Following the split, the two who
were in charge of VR, David Codikow and Dana Millman, left the management company.
The band is looking for new management, and it's thought that Codikow and Millman are
top candidates to take over the band's representation. No word on why the firing took
place.
Sam wrote in and said he saw Pauly Shore's new movie (no name given), and Matt Sorum
and Larry Cordola are credited with scoring the music for it.
If you want to see some photos of SLASH and Velvet Revolver at the Emmy after show party,
go to www.wireimages.com and search on SLASH. If you want to see even more,
search on Velvet Revolver. You don't have to pay to look at these thumbnails, and they
are great.
Looking back on England, Helen sent us an article about SLASH fans there. "We're Not Worthy"!
This short article says it all! Click here
to see how we're all reacting to seeing The Man closeup. Thanks, Helen! Also in London,
it's reported that Scott Weiland freaked out during a CD signing session at the Piccadilly
Virgin Megastore on Friday, September 3, after seeing a sticker on the band's CD which said
"Featuring members of Guns N'Roses" with no mention of Stone Temple Pilots. Weiland demanded
that the sticker be peeled off all stock and the band asked for non-alcoholic beer and fresh
fruit at the appearance.
Also reported from London were SLASH's comments on the new SLASH figure being developed
by McFarlane Toys. SLASH said that it's not an action figure, but it's a model of him
playing his guitar based more or less around a photo taken from a video and they're
just making a plastic thing out of it. When asked how he felt about that, he said "I
don't know man, I'll know a little bit better when I actually see it, you know".
Today we added the Velvet Revolver gig in Houston, Texas on October 30. So far that's 4 for Texas. The
southwest is getting a lot of attention with other shows in Phoenix and Tulsa. More
shows in October are in Little Rock and New Orleans and Nashville. October is a busy
month. Watch for more VR shows to be added for fall festivals in the US. The band finished
the European leg of the tour with a gig in Portugal. The band is stoked with all the
enthusiasm from the fans, but they were really looking forward to coming home. After
the 2 day concert for Miller Brewing in NYC where Slash played with James Brown, Lenny
Kravitz and Velvet Revolver, they came home and then went to the World Music Award.
Sarah watched Velvet Revolver (minus Dave and SLASH) present the award for best selling
female rock artist. This went to Avril Levigne. Sarah says the guys looked great and Matt
joked that Duff bought new clothes for the occasion. So, that went off ok. Unless something
new is added soon, the band will rest up to get ready for the Nashville gig on the 16th.
Rui sent a note that Duff and Matt were interviewed by
the Portugese Canal 1 TV channel to program Top +. It was about the Portugal gig,
and the interview has some small clips of "Fall To Pieces" performed live. Rui has this
uploaded here.
And here's a mention of SLASH where Ronan Keating (ex-Boyzone) encourages his ex-bandmates
to follow SLASH's example
and get a new band.
Here are some funny mentions. Paco found a cool site featuring cartoons of famous
rock artists. One is Axl and SLASH.
Check it out!. This next one is from the artist himself. Andy is a huge SLASH
fan and a Graphic Designer by trade. He will soon be promoting his first comic book
at the Bristol International Comic Festival. The character of interest to us is Zoot,
a lonely robot with a conscience. Andy sent us a picture of Zoot playing SLASH!
And he's right here for you to look at. Thanks, Andy.
Brian wrote in that he was at the Hard Rock in Vegas for the week and managed to run
into Matt Sorum arriving there for the World Music Award after show party. Brian didn't
get to talk to him, but it was still pretty cool. Avril Levigne, pictured here, was the
lucky recipient of the award presented by VR. Velvet Revolver played at the post
Grammy Award Party, and the review we read said that they were so loud that people couldn't
hear who were up near the bandstand and were using text messaging to communicate! Rock on,
guys! Also, Velvet Revolver appears in the one hour show about the Grammys that is being
run on the TV Guide station.
We told you about the NYC restaurant Duff and Scott are investing in called Snitch. Snitch
has a microscopic stage with equipment for use by any rockers who drop by and feel the
call to jump in. There are some specials on the menu and at the bar, and you know there
is a SLASH. We don't know if this one is for us, but maybe you Jack drinkers could handle
it. Read more at I'll have a SLASH!.
If you guessed what the "SLASH" was at Snitch, maybe you're ready for this. Allen says the
Blender crossword puzzle has the clue: Guns N'Roses n Stone Temple Pilots.
Answer: VR! Thanks, Allen! Another magazine mention is in a Rolling Stone ad that
Ray sent us. It's an ad for Sirius Satellite Radio showing the Sirius plug & play receiver.
The song listed as playing is "Slither" from Velvet Revolver! And this is a full page ad
so the band and song name is large. Thanks, Ray!
Another show in the US tour has been announced! Velvet Revolver will appear at a
festival in San Antonio, Texas on October 28. The Verizon Wireless Ampitheater is the
venue. Some of the other acts are Shinedown, Earshot, and Breaking Benjamin. We hope
this satisfies some of the many Texas fans because as far as we know the Austin gig
is still on for October 29 at Stubbs BBQ. Although tickets are to go on sale this
Saturday at 11 am, they are not yet listed on Ticketmaster or at the Verizon
Wireless Ampitheater, so watch for ticket sales there.
Here's an item for this evening that we just got from the VR gang. World Music Awards
will be televised this evening on ABC from 9 pm - 11 pm, and Velvet Revolver will be
presenting an award. There was a rumour that they were receiving one, but not this
go round. Still, it's a good chance to appear before a large audience estimated to be
one billion people around the globe. Be sure to
catch this one which honors the world's best selling recording artists of the year. It's
really the fans who vote them in with record sales.
The Awards are held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Thomas and Mack Center. Las Vegas fans
might see Our Guys on that red carpet!
The student newspaper of the University of South Carolina, The Gamecock, did a review of Contraband
which we thought you might like to read. It's called "Velvet Revolver Delivers Full-Throttle
Assault on Debut", and the band is called armed and dangerous.
Seems like a long time ago that the album was released, but some reviews are still coming in.
We often get requests from people that want to buy photographs of SLASH, and we now have
a site to send them to. The prices are more reasonable, and the pictures are nice to look
at even if you don't buy one. We'll keep a link in our links section so you can check back
often. They say they have a lot more to put up. In all the times we've been in touch with
photographers, the photos have been so expensive we never really considered buying one, but
these are affordable. Check out the pictures at SLASH photos.
They have quite a number of other artists, too, and if you scroll down after the SLASH photos
you'll see one of SLASH and Axl in happier days.
How would you like to enter a contest that's a giveaway of SLASH's Signature Les
Paul? Nero sent this in to us. All you have to do is go to
SLASH Sig Giveaway, enter
your email address and click enter! You'll want to read up on the information
there that talks about SLASH and his latest sig guitar. The item is valued at
over $6,000. Thanks, Nero!
Some sad news over the weekend was that guitar string maker Ernie Ball died following
a long illness. He was a pioneer maker of rock strings used by so many rock guitarists
including SLASH. When Ball started out by opening a guitar shop in Tarzana, it sold
only guitars. Sales reps would come in anxious to have him expand to other instruments,
but he turned them down thus becoming the most knowlegeable man in the rock string
guitar field. A major product was the lighter gauge, flexible strings for rock guitars.
Ball invented these in 1962 and called them "Slinkys". You've probably seen the ads
where SLASH is plugging this product. Today, Ernie Ball's items are sold in 5,000 music
stores in the US and exported to over 70 countries. He will be missed.
We have some links for you that will take you to Velvet Revolver shows and/or photos.
First, we have one from our friend Lisa who went to the Italian show. Her site has
a lot of cool things from the show. Check it out at
Italian Show. Thanks, Lisa! The one we're
showing here is from yanko pla salazar at
the Madrid, Spain show. And here's a huge site full of onstage photos! Check this one
at VR Onstage.
There's a great VR sighting in the October issue of the UK magazine Q. It's in
the Q Review Lives section, and the article is titled "The Gun Club" with
subtitle "GNR verans lay waste to Danish picnic site". This is about the Smukkeste Festival
in Skanderborg, Denmark on August 8. It says roadies are busy painting over the GNR label
and stenciling in VR. Scott and Duff stroll by wearing genital protection pads so they
can do some kick-boxing. On the tourbus, SLASH has a bottle of white wine, red wine but
is still looking for some stout. Q fears that the "shrunken faced, tattooed"
will run into culture clash with the Danes, but that is not to be. They say it's an awesome
display with Weiland in a cap looking like a pilot on a plane you'd never fly on! The
audience seems to separate into young rock kids who can't believe their luck and dads
heading home to get a rifle! A huge success. Duff says he felt his performance was
affected adversely because "he hadn't taken a dump in 3 days"! A great read and a great
picture, too.
If you're in the UK, the "Fall To Pieces" single should be in the stores today!
So far, we count three different singles plus the promo single. We scored the
promo single which has the album version on, a 10 second suggested outro and
an MP3 version, too. The single is about Scott's battle with drugs and the loss
of his family (they have since reunited). If you've seen the video, you can see
it is graphic in its portrayal of this period in his life. We're told by Eva in
England that the Daily Star paper says the video may be banned in the UK
for drug usage and nudity. Scott will not be pleased.
The new Gibson/Baldwin X-Press, the online newsletter for Gibson/Baldwin had a SLASH
mention and photo. Ray sent this in to us. The photo caption says "Velvet Revolver's
SLASH, posing away in the London Gibson/Baldwin Showroom." Have a look at SLASH
surrounded by guitars and his new leather jacket. And if you go to the photo there
are some more interesting facts. Check out
SLASH at Gibson/Baldwin.
Thanks, Ray!
We were too late to let you know that SLASH was going to make an appearance on the
UK's BBC1 Radio today, but you can hear the interview in its entirety! The interview
is done with questions from fans, so they're all over the place ranging from how
many guitars do you have (between 80 and 90) and will GNR ever reunite (no). SLASH
commented on how he was looking forward to the London show as they are a tough audience,
and they really went wild. It was an honor to have Jimmy Page and Brian May in the
audience. Well, listen for yourself. We're sure you'll enjoy it! Check it out at
SLASH on BBC1.
As we told you, Velvet Revolver did a signing at the Virgin Megastore in Piccadilly
Circus in London. Aurelie was there and says the signing was totally packed with the line
going around the block. See, we told you to get there early! Aurelie said it was very
hot inside and probably long and difficult for the guys, but they were very nice with
Matt smiling at everybody and Scott smiling at nobody. Thanks, Aurelie!
Two longer interviews came in for Velvet Revolver in Glasgow. One is from
Fiona, and the other from Nick.
If you're still waiting for your show, these reviews really get you pumped. And
don't forget...if you listened to SLASH on the BBC1 show, he said that Velvet Revolver
is coming back to Europe to do a more extensive tour, so more of Europe is going to
get a chance at them. Have a look at their reviews!
Aurelie was at the London show and said it was a great, amazing show with nothing
seen like it before.Although it seemed like 10 minutes, it was 1:30. Duff and SLASH are
thanked for coming to meet fans and taking pictures. SLASH is in very good shape and looks
so young. Aurelie says that she and a bunch of other French fans will be in the audience
next week for the Paris show! Thanks, Aurelie
Ever seen those Beatles or Presley action figures and wished they had one of SLASH? Your
wish is coming true. McFarlane Toys is going to release a SLASH figure in July 2005.
We personally own the prototype that was done awhile back for another toy company
that went bust. SLASH said there were 5 errors in it, so we think he'll be very critical
of the details this time. SLASH's remark on this whole event? "It's extremely flattering
and humbling to be immortalized in plastic". The figure will be SLASH with top hat
and leather jacket playing guitar. The price is an affordable $10-$12. In checking the
McFarlane site on the net, they didn't have it there yet, but there were others like
Motley Crue, Hendrix and others. SLASH is due out July 2005, so we'll look for him then.
So many times people write in asking how they can meet SLASH and get an autograph or
a picture with him. If it's really important to you, then head to London's Virgin
Megastore at Piccadilly Circus this Friday, September 3 where Velvet Revolver will
be doing album signing. They are scheduled to start at 5 pm. They have an off night,
so chances are they will be staying a couple of hours. We'd advise you to come and
get in line much earlier. Forget bringing that GNR stuff. Confine yourself to one
or two items so everyone has a fair chance at seeing the guys. Good luck! Thanks
to Brian who passed along that alert from the UK.
Dirk writes to us from Germany where he saw the "Fall To Pieces" single on sale. He bought
it and scanned in the front artwork. Pretty cool. The single is due out September 13, so
Derek got a sneak preview, we think. There's to be a two track single, a three track
single and a DVD single coming out. Dirk said his was the three track single. The b-sides
are "Surrender" (Cheap Trick) and a live version of "Fall To Pieces". We're envious,
Dirk!
We were on vacation during some of the shows, so we'd like to go back and pick up the
Dutch Lowlands festival first. Barry was there, and he let us know that you can listen
to the show
on this site.
It's really great! Thanks, Barry! Boudewijn wrote about her experiences working the festival
in the backstage area. He said SLASH was in perfect form, and the crowd went wild at the
GNR songs. He found the guys waiting to do an interview backstage, and he went over to
say hi to SLASH who was very friendly. SLASH asked him about the Coca Cola shirt he was
wearing...did he work for them. He said it was just a big fake. He also told him that
Cash and London were doing fine, but they were at home because Cash was too little to
travel so far. Boudewijn shook hands with Duff and Matt and off they went to interviews.
Thanks, Boudewijn! Speaking of the Netherlands, Annelaure said Velvet Revolver
have made several TV appearances. One station, Ned3, aired 2 songs from the
Lowland Festival and that great interview. MTV Netherlands featured "Mr. Brownstone",
"Set Me Free" and "Slither". In the interview, Scott was not there. It seems he
has to meditate after each show and drink carrot juice. Matt did practically the
entire interview as the other guys seemed out of it. Every time SLASH said a work,
he couldn't stop laughing. Annelaurie said the interview was a little disappointing,
because they really didn't say much of anything. At the end of the interview, SLASH
smashed a toy guitar on a toy drum kit! Thanks!
We've heard from Inga who was at the Rock Am See festival in Konstanz, Germany
on August 28. She was near the front, and she said the band was not treated very
well there. Some in the audience started up a Guns N'Roses chant in a way
that really threatened to interrupt the whole show. Scott and Dave of course
took the brunt of this embarrassment. Scott told the people to come on stage
and sing for themselves if they wanted GNR and later threw his megaphone into
the crowd. Inga said it was really too bad as most people there had been waiting
a long time to see Velvet Revolver and hope that the band won't hold it against
them. Alex went to the show in Munich, Germany, and his ears were still ringing when
he sent in his review. They started with "Suckertrain Blues", then "Do It For The Kids".
Alex said the whole room was so hot that everyone was just soaking wet. In some
early reviews, some fans said the band seemed too profesional or tense to have fun, but
not at Munich. The guys were definitely having a hell of a time. The band finished
their set, and the first encore was started by Duff and SLASH doing some acoustic
improvs and going into "Used to Love Her". Then came "Slither" with some long
solos by Dave. For "Sex Type Thing", Matt got a guy from the audience and took him
behind the drum kit. Second encore tore the roof off with "Mr. Brownstone" and
"Negative Creep". As Alex says, "What A Show!"
There's a lot of interest in that SLASH and Velvet Revolver appearance in NYC on September
17 and 18. We've come up with more information on this. First, there will be
no tickets sold to the public. The tickets will be distributed to sponsors for their use
as prizes/giveaways. Miller Brewing Co. is sponsoring the event as the culmination of its
celebration of the 50th year of rock and roll. We don't know who these sponsors are, though.
If we hear anything, we'll let you know. SLASH is appearing on the first night with
Lenny Kravitz, Alice Cooper and Bo Diddley (not just Lenny Kravitz) to do "Always on the Run"...
at least. He will do a second number with James Brown, and we still don't know the name of that song.
The second day, Velvet Revolver will appear. So one day is a SLASH solo thing, and
the second day is a SLASH in VR thing. SLASH does a lot of solo work as you know. He has
put together a corporation now to handle these solo requests. Arlett Vereecke (you may
remember seeing her on the Behind the Music show) is the CEO of VHLA Ltd now...VHLA
stands for Vereecke Hudson in Los Angeles. All publicity and scheduling of SLASH solo
work will be done through her. As an example, Arlett is on her way to NYC now to assist
SLASH on his September 17 appearance. She is a longtime friend and supporter of SLASH
and will be an invaluable assistant to him.
Also Brian sent us more information on that TV Guide Emmy After Show Party. Velvet Revolver
is providing the entertainment. It will take place in TV Guide Central just across
the street from the Pacific Design Center in L.A. TV Guide Central will be built from the
ground up into a "lavish environment" for the purpose of hosting this event. Last year,
Foo Fighters entertained. The event is Sunday, September 19, so that weekend will be a
busy one for SLASH and Velvet Revolver.
World Entertainment News Network reports that SLASH decided to quit heroin when he
realized his addiction meant he could no longer play well. SLASH became addicted
when he was in the early days of GNR and got to the point where he didn't care how
he was feeling. He is quoted as saying that one thing he always had was his playing,
and when he found he couldn't do that, he knew it was time to quit although it took
some time. He said the first time he took heroin he found his favorite drug because
cocaine puts you in a hyped up stage. He offered that the kind of personality most likely
to do heroin is often a shy guy who wants to be cool and relaxed, but you get to such a
low point on it that you don't care about your self-esteem. We think that ever since
Scott started opening up about his addiction, the rest of the band has felt more at ease
talking about their addictions, too. A strong caution from SLASH on drugs!
Izzy Stradlin left Guns N'Roses when the whole thing became just to much for him to cope
with. Some fans feel that the band was never the same after that even though Gilby Clarke
came in and did a yeoman's job learning the music and lyrics that Izzy helped put together.
Sightings of Izzy have been few and far between, but fans that went to three Velvet
Revolver shows saw Izzy onstage with his former bandmates! A near reunion of GNR took
place at the Bologna, Italy show (9/5), Paris, France show (9/7) and Barcelona, Spain show (9/9).
If you've been reading the reviews, you'll know that fans went crazy when Izzy appeared,
SLASH put on his tophat and they launched into some of the old GNR tunes.
No word if he will
continue with the tour tonight in Madrid, but the three shows were unique so far! Mamo
from Italy said the whole Bologna show was amazing with all the guys looking 15 years
younger and there was so much excitement when Izzy took the stage! Mamo got to take pictures
and Adam Day let him stay on stage with him! Frederic said the Paris show was awesome, and
for the encore Scott said he had an old friend to introduce and out came Izzy to play
"Used to Love Her" and "It's So Easy". Fantastic!
More reviews came in. Alex sent in a review
where he mentions a place on his site featuring a photo
of him with his idol SLASH! We also got one from Paco. He said the tophat was on the
amp as the show began. VR started with "Cocksucker Blues" with SLASH playing his red
BC Rich. The rest of the show was like the others except that sadly, no Izzy! The final
song was "Negative Creep". Paco said Scott is a great frontman, and he forgot Axl completely!
The band is a tight band. The only negative comment was that he was very close and the
venue is small so the sound was compressed. This was his first SLASH concert, and SLASH did
not disappoint...Paco said he has waited 10 years to see SLASH! Thanks, Paco!
Big news from Guitar World magazine for SLASH fans. They are planning a special
"Legends" issue on SLASH that should be at the newsstands in late October. The magazine
is a tribute to SLASH and his career. The entire issue is about Our Guy featuring
recent and archival photos and interviews from past Guitar World interviews.
SLASH will be in the company of such artists as Led Zep, Van Halen and Stevie Ray
Vaughan who all had their own "Legends" issue. So watch for that! On the subject
of magazines, Vicki told us that the September issue of Hit Parader has a Velvet
Revolver article (nothing new here) with a full-page color pinup of SLASH.
He has his red doubleneck with him. Later in the magazine there's a full
page pinup of VR, one of their promo pictures. Thanks, Vicki!
No news on just SLASH himself tonight, but there is a lot about Velvet Revolver. Velvet
Revolver was nominated for and won (!!) Best International Newcomer in the Kerrang! 2004 Awards. The partying went
on far in to the night, and we hope our guys had a great time. They deserve it. To read
all about it, visit the Kerrang Awards 2004 Site. Lots of
photos and descriptions. Great work, guys! Those of you in the UK know how big The Darkness is
there, and they led the Kerrang awards. SLASH knows about them since Izzy turned him on to them. The Darkness made some
good remarks about VR during an interview. Jason says this is definitely worth a listen.
Check that interview- it's in English
to hear more about The Darkness and their feelings about VR. Thanks, Jason!
When the band has a day off as they do today, they do a lot of promotional work to reach even
more fans. On Labor Day, VR were guests on the German show TV Total. Here's where you can see
that TV Total Interview Archive can be seen. See if you
think the same as Ismar who sent in his comments. Odsoten from Slovakia sent us the link. Ismar said the only good thing was their musical
performance since from the beginning it seemed to go wrong. Duff had on a lot of makeup. Ismar said that SLASH's hair was
dyed really black and both SLASH and Dave wore sunglasses which freaked out the host. SLASH was smoking which
also seemed to be a problem. He asked Slash if he really smoked or was that just for his image. And did they do drugs which
they all replied is in the past. He asked Scott if he were drinking Coke Light. The host asked about the tour schedule and
the guys couldn't get that straight. All in all, not a good host for them, but "Fall To Pieces" went very well. We hope you can see this
yourself. The site is not in English, and we never could get the interview going. We think it's just too busy. Keep trying!
The Paris show was last night, and the big news is that Izzy Stradlin was there! He joined the band with "Used to Love Her"
and "It's So Easy", and SLASH wore his trademark tophat. Just like old times, almost! Izzy hung out with the band
before and after the show. Thanks to Brian and all the French fans who sent that in. We're all envious of you. Aurelie
originally thought London was the best show, but now it's Paris and no wonder! A unique show!
We have an interview on the Manchester gig that Lesley's been trying to get to us. It's
a great story of a great day, so we'll let Lesley tell you all about it. Click
Lesley to read about this show! Thanks, Lesley. And this picture goes
with the story.
