In 1984, 12 year-old Ash was real big on graffiti, tagging up his name and doing full productions all over the city. Opportunity knocked when one of his original spray-paint T-shirts was noticed by a scout for Miller Highlite who commissioned him to do shorts and tops for their models on their upcoming calendar, thus providing Ash with a taste of the clothing business. Ash says Conart has given him stability. Art was in his genes. His dad, Tony Hudson is a photographer/artist/architect; his mom Ola Hudson, a dancer /artist/designer. As for his older brother...well, he's a guitarist in Guns N' Roses. Conart really filled a void and upgraded an art form not really accepted by the mass media. They were the first to mass produce and credit graffiti art and artists, associate it with the Conart logo and print it on street, surf, skate, and snow-clothing. Now they're expanding into printables such as collector's trading cards, calendars, posters, comic books, and...animation. 'We have such a great art force, we are like an artwork factory,' Ash explains, 'we've done tour merchandising for Guns N' Roses and AC/DC. We've designed Slash's album cover for his solo project called 'Snakepit.' ' Ash's most intense project is shaping up. A meeting with Spielberg/Katzenberg/Geffen's Dreamworks SKG company went well, although Ash can't discuss the project yet. What he will say is that he would like to own and produce as much as possible of the project himself, but needless to say, Dreamworks is not a bad place to house a new project. -- Arlett Vereecke
