We got to the Downtown Events Center about 6. The doors opened at 7, but we were about ten people back in one of three lines. It was FREEZING. Despite the fact Saturday was in the low 70s and gorgeous, Sunday was windy and frickin' cold. Everyone just wanted the doors to open so we could get inside and out of the cold! I ended up right where I wanted to be - on the right side of the stage and right in front. Hoobastank was the opening act; they performed for about 40 minutes, then we had to wait forty-five minutes for Velvet Revolver to come out. I have no idea why they took so long - the people behind me were cracking Axl jokes ('I didn't think Axl was in Velvet Revolver?'). I was joking that Slash had to make an emergency diaper change. But they finally came out, and the next hour and a half was one of the best experiences I've had. It was great to get to see Slash and Duff perform so close. They're both incredibly talented and to be able to have that great of a view of their playing was priceless. Slash was RIGHT in front of me for a good 50% of the show. I loved his shirt. It had the Elmer's Glue logo, and underneath it said "High on Life." He is in SUCH good shape right now and he looked simply amazing. Duff also spent about 35-40% of the show right in front of me, and Scott about 15-20%. Here's the set list: - Sucker Train Blues - Do It For The Kids - Headspace - Superhuman - Crackerman - Illegal I Song - Fall To Pieces - Dirty Little Thing - Big Machine - It's So Easy - Sex Type Thing - Set Me Free - Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover) - You Got No Right - Used To Love Her - Mr. Brownstone - Slither They did two encores. For the first one, Slash came out with the double neck and they did a cover of "Wish You Were Here" before going into "You Got No Right." That was unexpected and not included on the set list from the previous concerts. During "Fall to Pieces" Duff, Scott, and Slash were all gathered at the front of the stage standing up on the front speakers. It would have made such a great picture. The second encore was Mr. Brownstone and Slither. I don't know what else to say about the concert, but they were all amazing. Scott didn't look as sick as I thought he would (he's actually looking very good compared to just a year ago and I'm really proud of him), and I think Slash has a new tattoo on his back. I couldn't tell what it was, though, because he runs around so much that the only times he had his back towards me, he was gone before I got a good look at it. It's right in the center of his back between his shoulder blades. I can't get over how good Slash looked, and how long his hair has gotten. Their buses were parked on the street behind the venue, and we had to cross that street to get back to our vehicle, so I decided to lurk around and see if we'd get chased away or not. We didn't, and after a while there was a small crowd of about 10 or 15 people waiting around. Luckily we hadn't missed them - Dave came out first, then Matt. The security guards were very cool, and the small crowd of fans was respectful and would scoot back when asked without complaining. Duff and Slash looked tired. Slash was a lot peppier when I met him with Snakepit back in 2000, but that doesn't surprise me as Snakepit only performed 40 minutes and then had an hour and a half to kick back and watch AC/DC before I found them. We actually had to coax Dave out of the tour bus. He seemed so used to being 'that other guy' that it was like he thought we didn't want his autograph. Matt brought him out of the bus, then we saw Duff and Slash getting ready to come out of the Events Center and Dave started to sneak back to the bus. Half of us literally cried out, 'No, come back Dave! We want your autograph too, please man? If you have a moment. . .' Everyone was so respectful and nice to the guys. No one was ever demanding. It was always a meek little, 'Can I get a picture too? Is that okay?' The love was really there and it made me proud of my fellow fans. ^_^ I don't know if you can pass along personal messages to Slash, but if you get the chance, could you tell him that I am so grateful that they made a stop in Reno, and also that he and the guys are extraordinary for letting us silly fans get some autographs after the show? They were so nice and patient with us, and they really made me feel like they appreciated their fans. There was one girl who had on a sleeveless shirt with no jacket, and at midnight with a storm blowing in to the area you can imagine how cold it was. Matt actually went over and started to rub her arms and then gave her a little hug to try and warm her up. It was a total 'aww' moment. So please, if you can, ask Slash to relay the message that they touched some lives in Reno, and we would love to have them back sometime. Best wishes, Christine
