Hi guys! My adventure started last week when I finally decided to buy a ticket to the VR show, I managed to fit it in my hectic single-mom schedule. I took a general admittance ticket to the pit in front of the stage for $63 CAN, including taxes. The show was scheduled at 7PM Tuesday night March 22nd, 2005. I left St-Pie at 5PM with my friend Dany who dropped me at the bus station, took the bus for Longueuil, then took the Metro to Bonaventure station, where the Bell Centre is and arrived at 6:55! I was on my own for the show and I wished Rat was there to see it with me, but he was in Dallas studying for his exams… Oh well, his loss , because the show was extraordinarily amazing! I got my ticket at the booth, left my “luggage” at the Cloakroom and managed to land myself a 2nd row place in the pit just in the middle of the set of the first opening band who were not bad, but I didn’t get the bands name. After, around 19h45 came Three Days Grace who’re gonna be traveling with VR for the rest of the Canadian leg of the tour. Their frontman was really cute and they have some pretty good songs and they played us some of their new stuff. Half the crowd the was in the “stadium” at the time knew them already and raised their hands when he asked who had bought their cd. They were a good crowd warmer , saying that the women were hotter and warmer welcoming in Montréal than in Toronto and they stayed on the stage for about three quarters of an hour. Before singing their last song, he said “Let’s hear it for Velvet Revolver!” and the crowd roared. When their set was over, we waited during an hour long intermission, and I got to get acquainted with the other fans that surrounded me. A lot of them were wearing VR or GN’R shirts. The crowd yelled “Velvet! Velvet!” also a couple of “Slash!!!!” during the intermission. We got polluted by a guy smoking skunk in the seated side rows. The security guy took 3 guys out of the room but soon released them as it appeared they had no proof it was them. Around a quarter to 10, the guys came on stage after being introduced as the guys who put the “Punk” back in “punktuality”. Scott was wearing a pink shirt with stripes, his army cap and navy mascara (yes, I was really close enough to see that). Duff was wearing a sky blue t-shirt with black pants that had stars sewn on at the hips and feet. Matt was wearing jeans and a sleeveless leather shirt, Dave was wearing black a tuque hat , black shirt and medium-deep green pants. And Slash came on in general clamoring, most of the crowd was there to see HIM mostly. HE was wearing black pants with a navy paisley bandana in the right back pocket, a sleeveless burgundy sport jersey and a sleeveless leather vest much like Matt’s. They played Sucker Train Blues and Do It For The Kids then Scott introduced the band and said in a standup comic manner that it was “good to be in your beautiful country, which ironically was much like [his], but with a conscience. In the US we take steroids to get big and strong only to end up with a small dick”, and introduced us to the next song “This is a song for you, it’s call “Illegal I”” They played it for a long while, the solo lasted a while during which Scott took a smoke break along with Slash and during all of the show, the guys came to our end of the stage and we were cheering them on a lot, we pogo-danced all night, screamed/sung the lyrics all night, went wild until we blew our throats and headbanged along with Slash. Slash was always the one getting the most feedback from the crowd with Duff a close second. Slash took the mike at Scott’s request because Scott saw how into Slash the Montréal crowd is/was. He told us it was always a pleasure to be back in Montréal, that he hadn’t been here in a while ( that’s almost 4 years if my memory is correct, Slash, you should come more often!!!) and he introduced the next song as “This is how it all fuckin’got started” and they played Set Me Free. The rest of the songs, I don’t really remember in which order they were played, but here they are: IT’s So Easy ( the whole crowd was into the GN’R song, and especially this particular one, when we were at “Why don’t you just Fuck off”, the raised fits turned into fingers !) Dirty Little Things (“About the war and all”, said Scott), Big Machine, Headspace, You Got No Right, Fall To Pieces (that Scott dedicated to “all you groupies, junkies or those who listen too much radio”), Superhuman, some STP song that I didn’t know of. For the Encore, the neon Velvet Revolver sign above the stage was flashing red and yellow to get the crowd to get them to shout “Vel-Vet Revol-Ver!” as loud as they could because man, we were out of voice and out of breath, and so sweaty I could tell the brand of soap my crowd companion had used. Matt came back and did a drum solo of the intro to You Could Be Mine and then the rest of the guys joined him for Mr. Brownstone and Slither. During a song, Scott got off stage walked in front of us then climbed the stairs and you could see tons of hands reaching out to touch him…Boy,that guy is on FIRE I swear! And he moves like a Cirque du Soleil contortionist! At some point, he acted out with like like he was a bear trying to scratch his back and Slash was the tree. Then they got off the stage throwing a few picks and drumsticks in the crowd, unfortunately, I didn’t catch any. Everyone in the crowd wasl sorry the show was over already, there was so much electricity in the air to get us lasting until early in the morning. The Security guards were every bit as assholish as the last time (see my review of when Snakepit came on the AC/DC Stiff Upper Lip tour with Rat and Brainless314) and pushed us around asking us to leave and pointing to the roadies saying “these people are just trying to do their jobs”, we could even stay and get autographs… But surprisingly enough, they let people use their cameras and cell phones during the show… hum… Anyways, many fans left saying that it was the best show they had ever witnessed and they were on a natural and healthy high when they left while a huge grin on their face, after buying VR merchandise. I bought a T-shirt with short sleeves with the VR logo and the lady in front and the city names on the back($35.00) and a zippered one with long sleeve written Velver Revolver on the back and with a girl riding a Colt on the front($80.00 CAN) and a white stripe, but they were out of hoodies my size when I got to the counter BEFORE the show began. Oh, why doesn’t Slash ever sign autographs when in Montréal?!?!? Well, my journey ended taking the subway again, then the bus and a taxi, listen to Contraband all the way trying to savor every single moment of the show to cherish them forever…
