The End
Performance notes: The song opens with clean, chorused arpeggios based mainly on open chords. The picked opening is buried well in the mix but it IS there (it's just that the sound of the guitar is overpowered by the piano). When playing the picked intro, don't worry too much about the chords as long as you can pick the string correctly and use alternate picking to make it easier to play. Make sure you use the neck pickup on clean tone to get the correct sound that Slash manages to achieve.
The double-stopped main riff is played by using a flattened finger on two strings. Slash uses his first and third fingers. For this part of the song, use the bridge pickup with heavy distortion.
The guitar solo should be played with a lot of feeling and emotion and certain notes can be vibrated gently as Slash does when he plays the song live.For the solo, pick the strings somewhere between the neck pickup and the middle and roll the tone control slightly back.
