Music Events [08-01-2001] Guitar Icon Slash To Reunite With Michael Jackson During 30th Anniversary Tribute Concert
Legendary guitar icon, Slash, formerly of Guns `N Roses, will reunite with Michael Jackson during two special star-studded tribute concerts celebrating Jackson's 30th Anniversary this September at New York's Madison Square Garden. It will mark the first high profile performance and recording of this unique musical pairing since (1991), when they first teamed up to record Jackson's Dangerous album. Slash, a longtime Jackson fan as well as friend, will perform two Jackson classic songs, "Beat It" and "Black & White" and is expected to perform with the reunion of the Jacksons, marking the brother's first performance in 20 years. This reunion performance is expected to be the highlight of the two tribute concerts, which will be filmed as a two-hour primetime special for the CBS Television Network to air during the 2001-2001 season.
Michael Jackson comments: "I am so excited about working with my dear friend Slash again. He is a brilliant guitarist whom I am really admire and I look forward to having Slash perform with me again on these two special nights."
Slash states: "It's going to be a blast being onstage again with Michael. I am really looking forward to two great nights of music, and I'm honored to be a part of any event honoring him. He truly is one of the greatest talents known. Michael is timeless, classic and resilient. Here's to another 30 years."
Slash, who is widely recognized as the single-greatest guitar legend of the past decade, is constantly in demand as a guitarist, having played with such artists as Rod Stewart, Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Puff Daddy, Carole King, Bob Dylan and Aerosmith among numerous others. Also regarded as a style-icon with his trademark Top Hat, dark glasses, dangling cigarette and Les Paul, the guitarist continues to exude underground, hip appeal as well as mainstream identification. Slash has recently wrapped up a summer tour, and is focusing on his next recording project to be released in the near future. For more information on Slash, please go to slashssnakepit.com.
