SO FINE (Duff McKagan) Tabbed by Julian Pampling. Tune all strings down half step. Performance Notes: Slash's guitar parts are on the right with Izzy's on the left. It helps to listen to the track with headphones because you can easily distinguish between the guitar parts . I have also included Izzy's rhythm part over the intro and verses (Rhy Fig. 1A). Izzy plays this same part throughout all the verses. Notice that in the INTRO, a G5 chord is used and elsewhere, a G is used. This takes away the D note at the third fret on the second string. This is important to remember if you want to play this song accurately. All hand manipultaions are similar and should not prove to be too difficult with a little practice. When playing the intro and verses, remember to select the rhythm pickup on your Les Paul (as Slash does). The DOUBLE TIME section features the useage of the old rock n' roll 5-6 power chords (as made famous by players like Chuck Berry). To play this rhythm, hold down the 5 chord by using your first and third fingers and then streching over with your fourth finger to make the 6 chord. Slash uses the Treble (otherwise known as bridge) pickup for this part. When playing the slide solo, be careful not to let unwanted strings sound. To prevent this from happening, place some free fingers behind the slide on the strings not being struck. Lots of practice will make this technique effective. Be sure to place the slide directly over the fret. For this slide solo, Slash uses the Rhythm pickup and plays over the neck pickup. The guitar part in the 3rd Verse is similar to the 1st and 2nd Verses. In Verses 2 and 3, notice the effective use of the D chord. I have also included the guitar solo that Slash plays in So Fine on the Use Your Illusion II video (at the Tokyo Dome). The solo is similar to the one on record but it is played without the slide. Slash uses the Rhythm pickup for this live solo which give the notes a sweeter tone.
